THE TUMBLR FREAKS GOT Me

I have never watched SPN until the 5th November 2020 event also known as Destielgate. Ever since then, I have not known peace in this world. This is my descent into Hell.

Chapter 1: It was just a joke bro!!!

On that day, I distinctly remember I had elective workshop classes with two of my classmates. The moment went canon as I was buying my salad, and although both of them did not understand the madness of realising all the delusional Tumblr girlies were actually right, I nevertheless felt a sense of pride for the white men enthusiasts that kept the rotting corpse of a website online.

In an attempt to understand them, I turn to the best source of all fandom information: AO3.

This was my first mistake.

Chapter 2: Daddy Issues

Learning SPN from entertaining fanfiction was the best way of experiencing the show in my opinion. Fortunately, or unfortunately, a lot of the top fanfiction gets Dean Winchester's character spot on, and love to depict him in scenarios. If you are not familiar with fandom, you may be shocked to learn that fangirls love to put their favourite characters (colloquially known as "blorbos", a term coined in 2021) in Scenarios.

Behind the Han Solo facade, Dean Winchester is a man who has been severely harmed by trauma, and especially generational trauma imparted by his dead mom and abusive dad. To be honest, I don't believe John Winchester was ever directly physically abusive to his kids, but he was definitely neglectful in every area of their life. Like I said earlier, blorbos are placed into Scenarios, and a lot of these Scenarios would obviously, well, be with his dad.

At that point in time, I was still working through my childhood trauma also from child neglect so guess whose latent issues became really relatable.

Anyway, he wasn't just relegated to daddy issues as well, his dead mom who he deified for so long as a Virgin Mary (lol) got revived and freaked out because her son was now a 40 year old adult man who got into a life she didn't want. This triggered Dean's abandonment issues. Guess whose mom also freaked out at their baby girl being a person?

Chapter 3: What are you, a fucking kinnie???

The problem with having a character that has been on television for as long as a long-running shounen is that people will analyse the shit out of them.

i cannot believe that the dark fantasy horror show went okay we are going to create a protagonist who is psychic and drinks blood and can exorcise demons by looking at them and is fated to be lucifer's vessel and then. managed to make said protagonist so boring. that his closested daddy issues older brother became the main character
